Eugene reflected on how store technology priorities have evolved over time:
“Twenty or thirty years ago, everything was about speed and stability. That meant building big, fast, monolithic systems — and that worked really well for what retailers needed back then.” Eugene explained.
Today’s retail reality looks very different. Margin pressure is increasing, customer expectations span web, mobile, and physical stores, and innovation cycles are accelerating rapidly. Retailers are constantly looking for new ways to engage shoppers and respond to changing buying behaviors.
As Eugene and I discussed, this gap between digital and store technology is forcing retailers to rethink how store systems are designed. Modularity is becoming essential, not as a one time transformation, but as a way to modernize incrementally, introduce change faster, and keep store environments aligned with the pace of modern commerce.
